Her career began acting in the 1980s. Her fame was boosted by Tezaab, a film starring an established actor Anil Kooor. She next appeared in the movie Dil In which she shared the screen with Aamir Khan. The daughter of a middle class family in Mumbai she was able to learn dancing at a young age. She began acting when she was a youngster and struggled for a few years as most of her initial films were flops. Her breakthrough came when she finally had success and she went on to be one of the most well-known actors in the Indian film industry. She decided to take a break from her career following her marriage before returning to the entertainment industry. Recenty, she had a prominent performance as a character in Gulaab Gang. The film focused on the struggles of women in India. Dixit is nominated in 15 Filmfare Awards. Of these she's received 8. Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian prize given to civilians in India, was bestowed upon her. Her fame is based on her social works as well.
